The Hidden Joy Of Organic Living
Well, to say the least, organic living requires a whole lot of learning, understanding and maybe exploring to do.
One thing bizarre to this idea of organic living is, it usually dawn on us every summer.
Now, it's summer 2015. Organic Living has already crept in to our day to day conversation. We begin talking about 'utan bisaya', 'nilaw-oy', 'pinangat', and ohh can we insert 'halang-halang?'. Hahaha. Though 'halang-halang' may not be part of the 'organic living' that we are talking about, or is it?, my kids are very happy suggesting the dish.
What is organic living anyway?
I tried googling the internet to look for the meaning. I am given meaning of the words organic and living separately. Well, for me, organic living refers to living our lives eating organically produced foods and of course the use of indigenous materials for household needs.
Eating organically produced foods presents a difficulty too! For everything we buy nowadays are products manufactured with the use of chemicals. Some are potentially harmful ones. But, can we really live basically all organic literally? Hmmmmn, I guess we'll just have to stick to the things that are easy to understand. We have to stick to the foods we grow ourselves in the backyard. That, for sure, should be organic.
We plan to plant and grow:
1. Eggplant
2. Pechay
3. String Beans
4. Tomatoes
5. Lemon Grass, done 1
6. Malunggay, done 12
7. Amapalaya
If we try to look at the ingredients of 'halang-halang':
1. Native Chicken
2. Coconut milk
3. Salt
4. Malunggay leaves
5. Ginger
6. Oil
7. Chilli
Alas, 'halang-halang' can qualify to be organic. 'Yehey'! My kids are happy.
But, the reality is this:
1. Broiler Chicken (Grown with chemically induced growth chemicals)
2. Coconut Milk
3. Salt
4. Malunggay leaves
5. Ginger
6. Oil
7. Chilli
The presence of Broiler Chicken instead of the Native Chicken breaks the law of organic living. But, what the heck. The children still say 'Yehey!'.
So, you be the judge!
Pure organic living, Modified organic living...
We all know the difference. Experience the Joy.
Thanks.
